Steve Dawson brings his collection of strings that include acoustic guitar, 12 string, Weissenborn, tricone and ukulele in a mix of gypsy, folk and traditional on this album that includes a string section, horns and other cameo guests. The string quartet mixes Indian drones with Appalachian landscapes on “The Circuit Rider of Pigeon Forge” while Dawson’s nifty fingers dance along to “Hale Road Revelation.” He can pick and grin with the best as on the fun ragtimer “Hollow Tree Gap” or take you to a rural back road on his “Bone Cave.” Coplandesque panoramas are heard on rubato’d title track and even a bit of contemporary back beat drives along on “Bugscuffle.” A nice trip down country two laners.
