La Hora Del Blues
“With this new album Big Dave McLean has taken a step forward in his musical development. Till now his albums included versions of songs coming from some of his most admired blues heroes such as Elmore James, Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson, he always developed with a breath of fresh air and a personal stamp. This time Big Dave has decided to include nine own compositions, something unusual in this artist, together with three versions that complete the album. Knowing he had never recorded his own songs, one might doubt about his creative skills, but the true thing is the quality of his tunes is undeniable. Besides Dave has a personal attractive vocal style as well as a reliable way to play guitar, harmonica, steel guitar and cigar box. The recent collaboration with guitar player Steve Dawson has allowed him to travel to Vancouver, Canada, to record this new album, produced by Steve Dawson, where he is backed by an excellent group of musicians who provide the best background to a really interesting recording where the blues totally excels, without neglecting some touches of related styles such as rock, rhythm and blues, folk or country. VERY GOOD.”
