Dawson relocates to Nashville and hangs out his sonic shingle with this collection of John Fahey/Joseph Spence-ish instrumentals. Eleven tunes in total to send almost every other acoustic player on earth back to their bedrooms as he showcases his astounding technique and – more importantly – ability to compose memorable acoustic jams. It’s rare to get to humming along to material like this, but a track such as the opener Blind Thomas at the Crime Scene really does stick in your head in the same way a timeless Doc Watson pick-off would. Rather than some GIT wanker’s money riff, this is a master instrumentalist cutting loose and it’s a joy to hear.
