Pedal steel guitar is an instrument often introduced as a special guest on tracks to give a little extra Americana pizzazz, but here, Nashville- based Canadian Dawson promotes it to be star of the show. This instrumental album, with Dawson backed by Jeremy Holmes on bass, Chris Gestrin on keyboards and drummer Jay Bellerose, has a wonderfully atmospheric almost psychedelic vibe to it, aided by occasional addition of fiddle and instruments like a Marxophone (apparently a fretless zither played with hammers) and pump organ.
